My own photograph of Eilean Donan Castle and a texture applied in Photoshop.
Scotland's most famous, and certainly most photographed castle. Sitting amidst the cool waters of Loch Long and only a stone's throw from the Isle of Skye and the Cuillin Hills.
The castle sits on an island between three lochs; Loch Long, Loch Alsh and Loch Duich. It stands on the remains of a Pictish Fort and was once inhabited by the religious hermit, St. Donan. Hence the name Eilean Donan (Island of Donan).
In 1984 it featured in the movie Highlander with Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. This is not the only film Eilean Donan Castle has featured in, of course. It's quite the film star. It's even in Monty Python and the Holy Grail!
